Compare and contrast:

The fountain statue (left) of uncertain authorship is in a grassy shaded park behind the Whitney Center in St. Cloud. Bernini's principal patron Scipione Borghese funded Rape of Perserpina but then gave it to Cardinal Ludovisi in 1622, who took it to his villa. It is now in the Gallery Borghese in Rome.

In the early evening, the Whitney soccer fields come alive with young Somali men. Some 6,000 Somalis live in St. Cloud, about 10 percent of the population. The men tend to be slender and tall with remarkable agility which makes them a treat to watch.

Stretched as high as I could with the camera for a pic of new robins under the garage roof rafters but they were hunkering down. Try it again next week when they’re too large to hide.

Reading two novels at the same time. Didn't plan it, but both are set in the early 1940's, one in Detroit and the other in Berlin and both inspired by the lives of real people.

I bought it 25 years ago for $25 in a pawn shop, hoping it would get me through a divorce emotionally intact. Spent many hours blowing the blues in my room, learning the true meaning of the flatted third. Until then, I hadn't picked up a horn since I was in college. This week LaVona found it in the basement, encouraged me to take it to Al Asmus's music store and get it back into playable shape. Al said he could even though it's a Reynold's cornet, perhaps the lowliest of brass instruments. This is a before refurbishment pic taken at Al's today.

In the waning years of WW II, we were living in Rockville Center, Long Island, I was about 12 and dad was dying of a brain tumor. Mom said NYC was no place for a widow to bring up a child, so she packed us up and we took a train to her childhood home in Detroit Lakes Minnesota. That's where she met and married this widower. He was a clothing salesman and outdoorsman.
